The iPhone 17 series was launched last week, which includes the standard iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and Pro Max, and they are now available for pre-order. Although the iPhone 18 lineup is not anticipated until September of next year, rumors are beginning to circulate online even before the iPhone 17 series hits the market later this week. A recent leak indicates that the iPhone 18 models might have a smaller version of the Dynamic Island. It was rumored that the pill-shaped cutout on the iPhone 17 series would be reduced in size to fit a more compact front camera and sensor arrangement. The tipster Instant Digital on Weibo has reported that the iPhone 18 lineup will have a thinner Dynamic Island. However, the tipster mentioned that Apple is not planning to include an under-display Face ID or a front camera just yet. The latest information suggests that while the cutout may become smaller, it will not be completely removed in next year's iPhone series.

There have been rumors about Apple changing the design of the Dynamic Island. Earlier speculation suggested that the iPhone 17 could launch with a smaller Dynamic Island, but all four of the iPhone 17 models kept the same Dynamic Island design as seen in the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16 series. The Dynamic Island was first added with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max in September 2022. It replaced the large notch found in older models and offered an interactive cutout to show alerts, notifications, and real-time activities. Currently, the iPhone 16e is the only model in the latest iPhone range that does not feature a Dynamic Island. Based on previous leaks, Apple might introduce a significant design change with the iPhone 19 series in 2027, which would align with the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, potentially implementing under-display Face ID. This would remove the current pill-shaped Dynamic Island and leave just a small hole-punch cutout for the front camera at the upper left corner. This change is seen as a step towards a completely seamless display.

Apple launched the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max last week during its 'Awe Dropping' event. The new models come with iOS 26 already installed, ProMotion displays, a 48-megapixel rear camera, an 18-megapixel front camera, a USB Type-C charging port, Dynamic Island, and AI features powered by Apple Intelligence.
