Pakistan-origin man arrested in connection with Explosives at Denver Hotel

Police arrested Denver- based man in Los Angeles on Thursday in connection with the possible pipe bombs found in a hotel in Downtown Denver.

The alleged suspect identified as Adam Hayat of Pakistan-origin was found with knives in his possession after he apparently flew to L.A from Denver.

Police found the explosive devices inside a safe in the Sheraton Hotel, where the suspect stayed.

Father of the 35-year-old, Sultan Hayat said that Denver police called him and told him that Adam had run up a bill of $10,000 since December 26th at a Denver hotel.

When the Denver police went to the hotel room, they found a note written on the mirror with lipstick referencing PTSF and pipe bombs in the room’s safe.

Police then tracked his mobile that was shown located in California, where Adam was staying at the Holiday Inn on La Ciengea, a major north-south boulevard in L.A.

Sultan said that his son has a long history of mental health problems, including PTSD, bipolar disorder and ADD.

Sultan said that police notified him that his son bought some firearms and they were concerned that Adam may hurt himself or someone else.

Sultan said that he was very surprised.

Sultan also said that he has not spoken to his son in several months; he also said that his son is homeless and has been estranged from the family for years.

The suspect's father also said he hasn’t spoken to Hayat in several months, but he said his son is homeless and has been estranged from the family for years.

He added that Adam joined the Marines out of high school, serving in Japan and Korea, as well as Iraq.

"He has collected hunting knives since he was young," Sultan said, when he was told that knives were reportedly been in his son's possession. "He likes them."

The Marine veteran reportedly sent a letter to the VA about five years ago, complaining that he was not being listened to, according to reports.

Adam is expected to be brought from L.A. to Denver to face charges, according to sources. It can take weeks to move a defendant between states.

An employee of the Sheraton hotel said that everything was back to normal at the hotel and that the hotel was operating normally following an initial investigation.

Court records show Adam was cited for violating a curfew at Civic Center Park back in the summer of 2012.

A Colorado Secretary of State document also shows Hayat registered a landscaping firm -- Lard Landscaping LLC -- using the address of the St. Francis Center, a homeless shelter located at 2323 Curtis Street in Denver, in 2013.
