Terrorism&left wing extremism-major challenges: PM

The prime minister Manmohan Singh has said that terrorism and leftist wing extremism are the major challenges to the country. Addressing the chief ministers’ meeting on internal security in the country, the prime minister has said that the meeting was of great significance given the fact that it focuses on the major security challenges.  He later took on the left wing extremism and stated that it obstructs the country’s economic system.  Talking on terrorism, the prime minister has said that terrorism can be uprooted only when all the states coordinate to fight it.  The prime minister has said that another meet would be held on National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) on May 5.

It may be noted the West Bengal chief minister Mamatha Banerjee is not attending this meeting stating that one day would not be sufficient all the issues pertaining to the counter terrorism. Apparently the prime minister is going to held another meet to discuss the issue.  When asked about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Manmohan Singh has said that the situation limped backed to normalcy.

Meanwhile, the union home minister Chidambaram has said that the Centre would be extending its full support to the states for facing the Maoist threat. He has said that left wing extremism is strong in six states.(Phani)
