Google has launched a wide range of updates for Google Workspace at Google Cloud Next 2026, placing a strong emphasis on productivity powered by AI and better teamwork. The company introduced Workspace Intelligence, a tool that understands the connections between files, projects, and people across applications like Docs, Slides, and Gmail, allowing for more advanced, automated workflows. These enhancements demonstrate Google's commitment to making Workspace smarter and more automatic, though some features might still receive updates before they are fully available to everyone. The company announced that the “Take Notes for me” feature on Google Meet will soon be available not just for regular video calls. Users will be able to take notes and highlight action points from face-to-face meetings, as well as sessions on services like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Google mentioned that over 110 million users interacted with this feature in the last month. Furthermore, Google Sheets will be improved with new capabilities powered by Gemini. Users will find it easier to extract information from outside platforms like HubSpot and Salesforce. The update also brings in a new setup that allows users to create interactive features like dashboards, heat maps, and Kanban boards right inside spreadsheets.
The tech giant is also making Workspace features accessible to developers through a new MCP server. This enables outside applications and AI tools to safely connect with services such as Drive, Gmail, Calendar, and Chat. A command-line tool is also being developed to make these integrations easier. The company is introducing “skills” in Workspace, which are reusable automation tools aimed at managing repetitive tasks. For example, a team can create a process to review invoices and point out any errors. These skills can be built in Workspace Studio and shared with colleagues. Google is enhancing Google Vids by allowing more customization for its avatars. Users can add branding elements like logos or backgrounds. The avatars will also support more languages and can be automatically added when transforming presentations into videos.
The Gemini Enterprise app is being more closely integrated with Workspace tools. Users will soon manage Calendar events and edit Docs or Slides directly within the app. For business customers, Google is rolling out an auto-browse feature in Google Chrome Enterprise. This feature assists users in completing complicated, multi-step tasks across various websites and apps while ensuring security measures are in place. Regarding security, new governance tools will assist administrators in monitoring and controlling how AI systems access data. Google is also increasing choices for data location and providing client-side encryption for sensitive data. Additionally, the company is making it simpler to transition from Microsoft 365. A new migration system aims to hasten data transfers, while improved compatibility features will facilitate smoother work with Office files. Google stated that these features will begin to be launched in the upcoming weeks.
