Rising temperatures and the anticipation of an unusually sweltering summer may challenge the ability of residents in Delhi to remain comfortable. Following a warning from the India Meteorological Department regarding elevated temperatures and an increase in heatwave occurrences in various regions of the nation from April to June, a period of heatwave is anticipated in the upcoming week. The weather agency has indicated that temperatures in the National Capital are expected to surge on April 7 and 8, right after Ram Navami, with highs projected between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius. As reported by the meteorological department, on April 4, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 38.4 degrees Celsius, which is 4.4 degrees above average, while the minimum temperature was noted at 18.8 degrees Celsius.
On April 5, it is expected that isolated heatwave conditions will occur, accompanied by strong winds near the surface. The regional meteorological center in New Delhi has signaled an intensification of heatwave conditions in the area from April 5 to 8, and a yellow alert has been issued for the next four days. The IMD's recent press release has also conveyed heatwave alerts for several northern Indian states, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, for the week ahead.
According to a weather bulletin from April 4, heatwave conditions are likely to persist in certain areas of Saurashtra and Kutch, southern Haryana, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh during the period of April 5 to 9; in Himachal Pradesh between April 5 and 7; and in Punjab and the Gujarat Region from April 6 to 9. Meanwhile, western Rajasthan may experience these conditions from April 5 to 10, the Gujarat Region from April 6 to 8, eastern Rajasthan from April 6 to 10, and western Madhya Pradesh between April 7 and 10. Additionally, hot and humid weather is anticipated in Gujarat until April 10 and in Goa until April 9.
