For many women, having their period means dealing with more than just stomach cramps and mood swings. It also leads to the annoying problem of feeling puffy when they have their period. This typical feeling can make you feel bigger, uncomfortable, and not sure of yourself. But what causes your body to hold onto water, and, more importantly, what can you do to make it better? Before your period starts, the amount of estrogen in your body goes up, which makes your body hold onto salt and water. The amount of progesterone goes down, and a hormone called aldosterone goes up, telling your kidneys to hold onto even more water. This starts the RAAS process, which is how your body controls how much fluid is inside you, leading to your body holding onto water and feeling bloated in your cells.
How can you get rid of period bloating?
Nutrition expert Lovneet Batra shared a recipe for a drink with ajwain, jeera, and ginger that could help you feel better. Here is the full recipe:
Ingredients: 1 teaspoon of ajwain (carom seeds), 1 teaspoon of jeera (cumin seeds), 1 inch of fresh ginger (smashed or cut), and 2 cups of water.
Method: Put all of the things you need into a pot with 2 cups of water. Turn on the heat until it bubbles, then turn the heat down and let it cook slowly for 5 to 7 minutes. Pour it into a cup after straining it and drink it while it’s warm.
Drink this one or two times a day, especially one or two days before your period and for the first few days of your period.
This simple but helpful drink can help get rid of extra water, make you feel less uncomfortable, and help you feel healthier overall. By taking care of yourself and using the right ways to deal with it, you can handle period bloating and have a more pleasant experience when you have your period.
